We consider that having all of your children dressed smartly in our simple uniform is important for several reasons:

  • It provides our students with a sense of identity and pride in our academy.
  • It enhances the appearance of our students and therefore the reputation of our academy.
  • It helps to instil in our students a sense of purpose when they put on their uniform in the mornings.
  • Many jobs require staff to wear a uniform of some form or other and therefore we are helping to prepare our students for their life of work.
  • It overcomes the problem for both parents and teachers of what is or is not suitable for academy.

We understand that the uniform should not cost you any more than the clothing you would normally buy for your children and therefore we have kept the basic requirements very straightforward.

Boys

  • Black blazer with the academy badge
  • Black V-necked plain pullovers with no piping, buttons or motifs of any kind are optional for girls and boys. They are not a replacement for the blazer.
  • Black academy style trousers which are not skinny fit
  • White button through shirt which allows a clip-on tie to be worn smartly
  • Academy tie in appropriate House colour ( clip-on tie only)
  • Plain black shoes (not boots) with no logos or emblems (not canvas or trainer style)
  • We ask that your child’s uniform is kept neat and clean and that you mark all of their clothing with their full name.

Girls

  • Black blazer with the academy badge.
  • Black tailored trousers which are not skinny fit.
  • Plain black, formal cut Granville approved skirt.
  • White button through blouse which allows a clip-on tie to be worn properly
  • Clip-on Granville Academy tie in appropriate House colour (clip-on tie only)
  • Plain black low-heeled shoes (not boots) with no logos or emblems (not canvas or trainer style)
  • Black V-necked plain pullovers with no piping, buttons or motifs of any kind are optional for girls and boys. They are not a replacement for the blazer.
  • We appreciate that for modesty reasons some students prefer to wear a T-shirt under their white shirt. We ask that this is white only please with no logos.
  • We ask that your child’s uniform is kept neat and clean and that you mark all of their clothing with their full name.

Jewellery, hair and make-up

Whilst we understand that our students are growing up and want to exert their individuality we ask that they don’t do this by wearing excessive jewellery, having extreme hairstyles /patterns or unnatural colours or wearing too much make up.

We allow the following to be worn:

  • A watch
  • One pair of small gold or silver stud earrings, worn in each earlobe. No other body piercings or retainers are allowed.
  • Discrete make up for Y10 and Y11 students only – this means we should not be able to tell a student is wearing it from a small distance away. Colours should not be too bright and it should give a work like impression.

Please ensure that your child does not wear the following items as they will not be allowed in the academy:

  • Jeans or trousers that are jean-like (often these have studs on the pockets)
  • Cords
  • Leggings
  • Tight fitting trousers of any kind. Trousers must have some ‘give’ and not taper in below the knee.
  • Short skirts (please ensure that when you choose a skirt with your child that it is at least knee length)
  • Trainers
  • Pumps
  • High heels
  • Coloured T-shirts under their white shirt
  • Shirts or blouses which are unsuitable for a tie
  • Cardigans
  • Black jumpers with logos
  • Leather jackets

If your child comes to the academy dressed inappropriately the following sanctions may apply depending on the precise situation:

  • Confiscation of offending item (must be collected after 3.00 p.m. by parent or other adult with written permission from parent)
  • Student sent home after a telephone call to you explaining the situation
  • Student issued with detention at break, lunch or at the end of the day.
  • Student is isolated for a period of time
  • Pre-exclusion warning letter
  • Referral to Principal

We have spoken to a large number of girls who are wearing the correct trousers and they have purchased them from Next, Asda, BHS, M&S at reasonable prices.

Recommended Academy Uniform suppliers

We work closely with the following local suppliers who we feel provide good quality clothing at a reasonable price:

PE KIT

From September 2018, Year 7 students will wear the approved Granville Academy PE kit in our Academy colours and featuring the badge. This can only be purchased from our local suppliers.

The full kit requirements are as follows:

•Clean trainers suitable for indoor use

•Trainers suitable for outdoor use

•Royal and navy polo shirt with Academy logo

•Long sleeved mid layer with Academy logo

•Shorts or 'Skort'

•Navy blue football socks

•Shin pads, football boots (boys) and gum shield

•Plain black tracksuit bottoms/rainproof jacket as optional available from our suppliers

We are happy to let students continue to wear the old PE kit which students in Years 8-11 currently wear. This consists of a pale blue airtex top and navy shorts.  These can be purchased in many major supermarkets and will shortly be stocked by our local suppliers. Should Year 8-11 students wish to purchase the new kit they are very welcome to do so.
